This extremely rare green quartz only comes from the Greek Island of Serifos in the Aegean Sea, located in the western Cyclades, south of Kythnos and northwest of Sifnos.

Serifos green quartz or prase/prasem (also known as hedenbergite ) has become extremely rare since mass mining of sea caves in Serifos, Greece ceased in 1965. The poplualtion at this time rose from 1500 to over 4000 approx. at the height of the mining era. The main focus of mining was not the quartz but Ore, of which many hundred's of thousands of tons were exported to the Europe. Prior to this, mining for this precious Ore had been going on since the 6th Century BC through the times of Roman rule to 16th Century, then stopped for over 200 years until in 1861 King Otto's decree ordered mining to commence once more.
Serifos comes in a number of forms; wands, clusters, crosses and leaf like shapes, they can even look like a wee bud of a flower. Along with the wide range of green quartz - from very pale yellow/green through to dark, kale like colours, amethyst can be found also. Many of these formations are wands, with some starting out at the base as green and then protruding to amethyst at the tip (see photos).
Serifos are extremely powerful and sensitive crystals to work with energetically. Great for the physical and emotional bodies, and to connect with consciousness, should you wish. I have developed a powerful energetical relationship with the amethyst wand I use. I place in left hand, tip of point to the centre of my hand (we have a VERY powerful chakra located here) then feel the surge of energy up my arm. Sometimes I direct to parts of the body, if I have a pain or ache or insect bite (I also point the tip directly at place of issue) for example. Other times I let it free flow and feel into what the energy is doing, its really beautiful experience that I don't have with other crystals, each has a special quality I'm finding.
A great addition to any rarities collection.
