The ancient Greeks and Romans were aware of chrysoprase as a gemstone. A few pieces have been discovered among their artifacts, although it was not widely used at the time. After reserves in Poland were identified in the 1700s, chrysoprase became a popular gem in Europe. The majority of chrysoprase is now produced in Australia, but due to restricted resources, it is not widely used.
